With so many digital magazines and brands deploying multiplatform content on the likes of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, devising social media standards for measuring data for advertising purposes was only a matter of time. Now, the Media Rating Council has done just that. Keep in mind, of course, that no matter how these guidelines shake out, you must maintain a regimen of your own when it comes maximizing the potential of social platforms. Minding your own store with best practices on social media will make it a lot easier to generate digital ad revenue down the line.

Social Media Standards From MRC Will Audit and Accredit
Interested parties will have until October 15 to register comment about the Media Rating Council’s new social media standards, released last week, MediaPost reports.
“The MRC said the guidelines establish official industry ‘definitions and baseline metrics for original content authorship, subsequent engagement and resultant reach. In addition, they provide guidance for social media coverage and projection, measurement within applications and outside them, measurement of User-generated content (UGC), collection and use of aggregated social media platform data, filtration, reporting and audit guidelines,'” according to MediaPost.

“The initiative’s principal co-sponsors, along with the MRC, include the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4A’s) Social Media Committee, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the Word of Mouth Marketing Association (WOMMA). The project also included the participation of a large group of organizations that included media advertising buyers and sellers, as well as measurement vendors, auditing organizations, and others.”

“The Adobe Media Optimizer for advertisers and media publishers now powers the self-service programmatic platform. The update focuses on integrating display advertising, but also now allows advertisers to take control of automated and integrate ad buys for search and social media across ad exchanges and media networks — from partners like Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Rubicon Project, and Index Exchange,” Laurie Sullivan writes.
