6 Ideas For Where To Put The Facebook Like Button on Your Website

High-traffic and loyalty hot-spots to put the Facebook like button for maximum “likes”

Since the future of your articles in SEO-land is now so dependent on social media, it’s more important than ever to enable your readers with easy-to-use like and share buttons.

The “like” button comes in a few shapes and forms, but if you have any interest in getting people to follow you on Facebook and share your articles, there are several places to install it that are better than others.

And while we’re here, why don’t you go ahead and “like” us below. Clever, eh?

This here is a like box, better for your homepage and thank-you pages:

And here’s the like button, better for articles and places where you want to use less real estate:

Blog posts – This one is a no-brainer. The best way to get someone to share your article is to give them the ability to share it. When they hit the “like” button, your article will show up in their feed. If you enable commenting on the article, it will be given greater visibility in the feeds of their friends.

Blogger/Editor/Author pages – This one is less obvious, but is an easy way to get “likes” when someone comes across the page for a blogger they read regularly.

Landing pages – When you have a free white paper, book, magazine event or anything else that your brand creates, it’s a great idea to let people “like” the product so that they can share it with their friends. Most people are happy to share the things they’re interested in and want to recommend.

Homepage – For the homepage, a great idea is to use the full-on “like” widget/plugin that Facebook gives you. It allows you to show your Facebook feed, as well as the number of people who like your page.

Thank-you pages – When someone buys a product from you, or signs up for your email newsletter, they are currently in their highest state of truly “liking” you. This is a great time to pop a “like” button in their face, and better with the larger box that I mentioned above.

Email newsletters – One great place, almost as important as you homepage, to put a “like” button is at the top of your email newsletter with maximum visibility.

If you’re a B2C publisher, Facebook is probably your top social network. That’s typically what we see with most consumer-facing magazine brands. If you’re B2B, it will be hit or miss, but I’ve seen B2B brands succeed even with Pinterest, so it’s not always the medium, sometimes it’s the effort. Whatever social media channel works best in your market, use your creative marketing team to come up with the best ways for you to use it.
