The Washington Post Hits the iPad

And it’s currently free

Another major publication stepped into the digital age of the iPad recently.

The Washington Post has become the newest member of major publications to offer an iPad edition. For readers of the magazine, the iPad edition is currently free.

That will however change on February 15th, 2011. At that time users can subscribe to the iPad edition for $3.99 per month. For those who already subscribe to the print edition, they will be able to subscribe to the iPad one for only $0.99.

According to a recent Mashable article, one of the app’s best features is that it contains a Live Topics section. This section combines relevant content with top stories from around the web. It also houses conversation streams from sources found on Twitter and Facebook. The app allows interaction and discussion through these social networks, as many other apps do.

As another major publication eases its way into the digital landscape, what are your thoughts on these movements? Will the iPad continue to bring publications online? Will more publications set up subscription models to align with the iPad edition? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this fascinating topic.
