Do you still use a large desk calendar? They’re effective at keeping you current with all of your upcoming appointments and tasks because it sits right in front of you… on your desk!
Wouldn’t it be great if you could manage all the posts your editors create on a calendar? You could see the upcoming month in all its glory and have the ability to pace out a series of content and know how your weeks flow together. Wouldn’t it be great if you could schedule posts from that calendar down to the exact minute they should be seen publicly?
Well you can, it’s called the Editorial Calendar Plugin for WordPress. This slick plugin displays all of your scheduled posts on a monthly calendar. It even lets you drag and drop posts on new dates and quickly set the time for which you want them to post.
This plugin has been around for over a year now (and we reviewed it last September too). It’s officially well-tested by users, has a five-star rating and is vigorously maintained. They’ve released quite a few updates in the past couple months, so here is a list of some key new features.
1. The ability to schedule a post for whatever time you want. In the past, posts could only be scheduled in half hour increments.
2. You can now use the arrow keys to quickly navigate between weeks and months.
3. The plugin supports custom support types with multiple calendar support. So let’s say you also produce and publish podcast posts but you don’t want to jumble them up with your editorial posts. You can now have a separate calendar for you podcast post types.
The editorial calendar plugin has come a long way and many publishers they could not run their sites without it. As with any WordPress plugin, you’ll want to exercise extreme caution when installing any new plugin. Back up your database daily and you should be fine. Try it out for a few weeks and see if it makes a difference in your content marketing strategy.
